This work consists of 1 channel video installation with large size paintings and print works.
The video installation is based on a Korean music video, titled “I like you, I love you.” The singer is Korean female who gives cute cues as much as possible. Her video shows us extreme youth, vulnerability, and cuteness. It makes us with her provide care, supervision, and such a strong affection. In the world of the video, she appeal to us that “Let’s not worry of anything complex, just love me.”

However the cuteness from her video reveal to the sense of cheapness and the feeling of being manipulated and exploited at the same time. The sense and feelings of the above make cuteness appealing to us on the one hand. On the other hand they lead us to reject cuteness as low or shallow. It tastes like artificiality of “natural strawberry flavor.”

The “cute factor” is ubiquitous in not only Korean culture but in the rest of the world culture. It is somewhat like a ghost. Regardless of their age, gender, and color, people seem to like cute object more than before. I found the cuteness had some esthetic elements, but it was barely uncovered. Thus it is natural for me to catch the ghost by my work. “A spectre is haunting” the World the spectre of cuteness.
