The Past, The Present-Street

Jeong’s work of landscape presents the coexistence of the past and the present. While on the right part the landscape of the street is being shown in real time through the CCD camera installed at the street light in front of the gallery, on the left part the landscape of the past is shown as if it is one of the present.
What should be focused on in this work is the very meeting area of the past and the present. For instance, a moving motorcycle of the left part suddenly disappears when it arrives at this area. And yet, at a very part where the motorcycle has disappeared, a car comes to appear. From this, we could witness that the past and the present meet and part from each other. Strictly speaking, this meeting point is the perfect proof for the present.

[The Past, the Present-거리]는 과거와 현재가 동시에 존재하는 상황으로 연출돼 있다. 화면 오른쪽엔 갤러리 앞길 가로등에 설치된 CCD Camera를 통해 현재의 거리 풍경이 실시간으로 중계되고, 과거의 풍경은 왼쪽 옆에서 마치 현재인양 천연덕스럽게 존재한다.
전시장의 한쪽 벽면 전체를 비추고 있는 이 작품에서 눈여겨봐야 할 부분은 바로 과거와 현재가 만나는 중간 지점이다. 예를 들어 화면 왼쪽에서 멀쩡히 달려오던 오토바이는 이 지점에 이르러 무엇엔가 빨려 들어가 듯이 사라진다. 그런가하면 오토바이가 사라진 자리에서 불현듯 자동차가 나타난다. 우리는 이 풍경 작품에서 과거와 현재가 만나고 헤어지는 것을 목격하게 된다. 엄밀히 따져보면 이 지점이야말로 가장 완벽한 현실의 증거인 셈이다.
